Etisalat and Du, will be deactivating all sim cards of users who have not re-registered their sim cards, with their relevant service providers. Last date for customers to register their sims with their service providers has been decided as July 16th, by UAE’s Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA).
The main goal, behind the initiative of this campaign is to reduce the number of problems that result due to illegal sim cards. Getting their sim cards registered will ensure that the subscribers don’t lose their numbers. This will also keep them safe from misuse of their number for any illegal cause.
Customers need to provide valid and original identification documents, at any nearest kiosks of the telecoms, with the copy of the ID proof. These documents consist of the Emirates ID or passport for UAE nationals and GCC National ID or passport for GCC nationals.
Customers, who are not nationals, must provide their resident visa documents along with their Emirates ID or passport. Business and government customers need to show their authorized establishment card, which is given by the Ministry of Interior in the UAE.
Customers are being requested to visit the kiosks or points of sales, in the operational hours for Ramadan. Multiple services are being offered by Etisalat and Du, to further enhance customer experience for users, while using the mobile services offered.
As per a media statement, so far Etisalat has been able to collect registrations from 95 percent of its whole database of mobile users.
