The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced five new smart apps as well as the services website for customers. These apps have been launched to facilitate the customers and provide them with better customer service. The apps can be downloaded for free on platforms such as, iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows phones.
RTA has introduced a package of five smart apps, which include – Smart Salik, Smart Parking, Public Transport, Drivers and Vehicles as well as Corporate Services, which is in line with the goals of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make Dubai into a Smart City.
RTA has launched a total of eight smart applications, including the above five. Other apps which they have introduced previously are the Wojhati, RTA Dubai and Smart Taxi. RTA aims to enhance customer experience and offer their customers all of the 200 services via smartphones, out of which 53 are already live.
The Salik smart app lets customers check their balance and recharge their salik cards, as well as enquire about their offences and display their trips etc. The Drivers and Vehicles app lets the customers apply for vehicle ownership renewal and number plate change, renewal of driving licenses, buying a unique number plate and even finding out about their offences and fines due.
The Corporate Services app lets users explore tenders and request for placing ads in Dubai Metro etc. The Public Transport app, lets its customers use the application to check their Nol cards remaining balance, maintain their personalized Nol cards, for balance and applications, and also if they want to change their card to Nol silver or gold cards etc. The Smart Parking app will be able to locate nearest parking spots available by detecting the location of the customer.
The five apps need to be downloaded individually, since they run independently of each other. Customers though can use the same username and password for all the apps. The apps cater to both English and Arabic speaking customers.
“If the user has a Dubai Smart City initiative username and password, he can use the same to avail RTA’s services,” said Abdullah Al Bastaki, Director of Information Technology.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, who launched the smart app package, spoke about the utility of these apps, and how it will impact service delivery. He said customers will be free from hassle of going to customer service centers and having to put in the extra effort. He spoke about “smart mobility” being a basic pillar of the smart city initiative, which focuses on delivering convenience and comfort to the people of Dubai.
