New mobile boarding passes have been introduced by Etihad Airways. These new passes are currently available for selected routes empowered with online check-in facility via mobile. The initiative has been launched to reduce paper waste. It will also eliminate risk of losing boarding passes as customers will be able to store multiple passes on their mobiles.

Chief Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, Mr. Peter Baumgartner explained the vision of the airline to make the boarding experience as smooth as possible for the customers. This decision will also help reduce carbon footprint while adding to the overall customer experience.

The mobile boarding passes will have the same information as traditionally used boarding passes possess. The boarding passes will be directly provided to customers on their smartphone. They will be able to save the passes using Passbook feature for iOS operated smartphones. It will take some time before the boarding passes are made available to all Etihad customers around the world. The airline will gradually install more mobile boarding pass readers to further expand this facility.

Etihad is currently offering mobile boarding pass facility to customers travelling from Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dammam, London Heathrow, Manchester, Colombo, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Minsk, Munich, and Tokyo Narita. This facility has not been currently extended to flights from Abu Dhabi to the United States.

Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. The addition of mobile boarding passes will greatly facilitate customers and add to their travel experience, making the boarding process faster.
