Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) is the talk of the hour at the event, as visitors admire one of the first free zones in the world to provide employees and customer with free Wi-Fi facility with a speed up to 1Mbps.

Dubai is currently hosting Gitex Technology Week 2014, one of the major information and communications technology (ICT) event in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. DAFAZ’s initiative is in line with Dubai’s aim to transform itself into a smart city, which will enable efficient delivery of services. DAFZA representative at Gitex Technology Week 2014 unveiled the new Smart App, which enables investors, employees, visitor to access the free zone’s services through their mobile devices. The app is likely to accelerate the transaction processes and enhance customer experience.

The app also features advanced browsing tools, which allows access to more than 300 service including business set-up inquiries, forms and license renewal requests, visa application, and official letter forms. The smart app also has an in-build location map and direction guide, with database containing routes of buses and information regarding metro services. The app can be linked to local and federal government databases for integration with various department at a later stage.

During Gitex Technology Week 2014, DAFZA also highlighted its features of its “DAFZA Eye” a revolutionary system through which DAFZA employees, clients, visitors, and public can report issues, concerns and incidents. This initiative could immensely help the authorities to thoroughly investigate and corrective measures in place.

Buthaina Hamad Bin Fahad, Director of Information & Communication Technology department, DAFZA, in a comment regarding the initiative outlined what DAFZA is out to achieve in the future. 1,600 international companies will benefit from free zone, of which 17 per cent constitutes of ICT industry. He mentioned that DAZA state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide reliable, and uninterrupted Wi-Fi service includes 500 hotspots and various facilities and public transportation stations.

He further explained how new initiative is likely to attract more international investors, reaffirming Dubai as one of the leading investment destinations in the world. He commented on DAFZA commitment to turn Dubai into a smart city with the help of establishing high quality standards and procedures, through interconnected smart services and solutions and infrastructural investment to make it possible.
