Under the ‘Marhabtain’ initiative 5,000 taxi drivers will undergo training in order to improve service experience.

Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority announced the launch of tourism training program under the ‘Marhabtain’ initiative. Under the first phase of the initiative Sharjah taxi drivers will be given professional training over a period of one to two years, with an average of 20 to 25 trainees attending each session over two to three months. The new training service aims to improve efficiency which will attract more tourists and make Sharjah one of the most prominent destination for tourism.

SCTDA will be collaborating with Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) to conduct the training programme for taxi drivers in Sharjah, which aims to enhance customer experience for visitors.

The announcement was made at the Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah, where it was revealed that the initiative will also include workshops and forums for top level management, in addition to training workshops for hotel managers, travel agents and frontline staff in the tourism industry.

H.E. Mohammed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of SCTDA pointed out that SCTDA is continuously working towards creating excellence in every aspect of tourism in Sharjah. Under the ‘World Class Tourism Facilities and Capabilities’ of Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 the organization will partner with Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority to collaborate and work on the first phase of ‘Marhabtain’. He said that training taxi drivers will improve the overall taxi experience for visitors and travelers.

The training will help empower the frontline staff in the taxi industry. The training will enable the taxi drivers to better understand the needs of passengers. The taxi drivers will also receive training to handle special needs passengers. Additionally, taxi drivers will be educated on all tourism related information including key facts about Sharjah, important tourist locations, and major activities and events.
