H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in an announcement revealed that RTA has successfully converted about 173 services into smart services. These services can be assessed through all major mobile platforms including Android, Apple, Blackberry, and Windows. The initiative is part of a larger goal to make Dubai into the smartest city in the world.

RTA will now be offering a total of 173 smart services. 83 services for road users, 31 for transport users and 59 for business sector. The unprecedented success of smart services is reflected by the popularity of smartphone app with more than two millions downloads and a total of 260 thousand transactions to date. RTA has issued more than 13 million e-tickets for parking via SMS over the span of 6 months.

Al Tayer said that the conversion of all services into smart services is in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai, into the smartest city of the world. He said that RTA has worked tirelessly to offer e-services and plans to launch 200 smart services via smartphones by the end of 2015.

The organization has streamlined more than 36 services through re-design and innovation with the help of 80 male and female students from five universities. RTA also sought help from several companies in designing and testing the smart services.

Al Tayer went on to explain the culture of innovation and creativity in the organization, which is apparent in the design and functioning of smart apps. He pointed out that the company has developed more than eight innovative features including barcode of vehicle details, and the m-store service, which allows drivers to view their driver licenses, vehicle registration cards, and distinguished plate certificates. Other features also include green points, direct calls, smart clock, and renewal of parking tickets. Customers can also check the status of vacant parking spaces in Dubai Mall, which is available through an interactive lists & maps.

Last year, RTA organized a smart app contest amongst university and college students to boost interest in app development. The organization also plans collaborate with the private sector to enhance customer service experience in the future.
