His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, on July 5th revealed the plans of a world class project, the Mall of the World. The project aims to bring Dubai to the top in global ranking for tourism as well as retail and commerce.
“We announced recently that we plan to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist and economic hub for the two billion people living in the region around us; and we are determined to achieve our vision,” said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.
The Mall will be built along the Sheikh Zayed Road, and will consist of a temperature-controlled pedestrian city, a first of its kind. The Mall of the World is set to conquer many records once it is completed, such as having the largest indoor theme park, health clubs and resorts as well as attractions for entertainment, such as cultural theatres etc.
The project will be designed, with the idea of having an open- air street layout, with a street network all over the mall, letting visitors enjoy the weather during winter months, by opening its glass dome. The mall is said to have the capacity to host over 180 million visitors each year.
The project will be built on a total area of 48 million sqft and will hold the largest mall in the world, made on an area of 8 million sqft. The venue will facilitate all kinds of visitors, from shoppers to medical tourists. The mega project will consist of 20,000 hotel rooms for all the visitors coming in.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammad highlighted the goal of enhancing the tourism sector, and increase visitor traffic, all year round and not just during the seasonal tourism. He stated the importance of introducing the temperature controlled environments, so that shopping in the summer and winter both can be pleasurable.
The mall is being made in line with the Expo 2020 and the growth in the hospitality and tourism industry. Visitors travelling in from different parts of the world will be amazed by the spectacular sites and entertainment experiences they will have. The customer experience and quality service of the tourism industry has seen a boost in the recent years and the aim is to grow it further in the coming years.
