The launch of smart ambulances will help patients get to the hospital faster, while their treatment begins inside the vehicle.

Dubai will soon be providing its people with “smart” ambulances which will use solar power to operate and also let doctors know about the condition of the patients while they are still on the road.

The vehicles will be worth Dh1.2 million and are being imported from the United States into Dubai. The annual Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference showcased one of the vehicles for the participants to see.

“It is the first of its kind in the world,” said Dr Omar Al Sakkaf, the director of medical and technical affairs at the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.

The vehicle uses the energy from the sun to power its lights, and is made of carbon fiber, which makes it light weight and fast. The ambulance also has a smart stretcher and a child’s seat too.

“This is part of our long-term preparation for the Expo 2020. We will have an entire fleet soon. It is like a mobile emergency department and has all the equipment to provide emergency care,” said Dr Al Sakkaf.

The ambulances will be equipped with an electronic system which will record patient’s vital signs and transfer the data to specific hospitals in Dubai during the journey which will save valuable time. Hence, the customer service provided to the patient, helps start the checkup while the patient is in the ambulance. This new addition will improve the healthcare and emergency services being provided to people in Dubai.
