Two leading US retail brands plan to setup stores in Abu Dhabi’s Al Maryah Island by 2018. Bloomingdale’s already has a store in Dubai, but for Macy’s, this would be its first venture in the Middle East. Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s are popular US brands specializing in clothing, accessories along with home and beauty products.

Gulf Related and Al Tayer Group, have signed a contract to open these two stores in the Emirate. The stores will be part of a 2.3-million-square-foot shopping center, currently under development on Al Maryah Island. There will be 205,000 square feet and 230,000 square feet for Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s respectively. The stores will have four levels, based on various shopping sections offering a wide range of choices to customers.

Terry Lundgren, Macy’s, Chairman and CEO, said that Al Maryah Central is an excellent opportunity to introduce Macy’s to customers, since UAE is a booming economy, and visitors from around the world visit the Emirates for events, business and leisure trips.

Al Maryah Central, which is worth $1 billion also includes a new hotel and integrated residential towers covering an area of 400,000-square-foot. Al Maryah Central will offer more than 90 dining options, including cafés and fine dining restaurants. The mall will also feature an outdoor amphitheater for film screenings and a 20-screen cinema.

Khalid Al Tayer, CEO of Retail for Al Tayer Group expressed his delight over opening the first Macy’s for customers outside of the United States and a second Bloomingdale’s store in the United Arab Emirates.

Launch of these two popular stores is indeed a great news for shoppers in Abu Dhabi as it will provide them with more retail options to look forward to and an overall greater customer experience in terms of shopping.
