A new electric powered tram project called “Dubai Trolley” has been announced by Emaar which will start operating next year in Downtown Dubai.

This ‘Hop-on hop-off’ transit system offers convenient commuting option to residents. Dubai Trolley with its 7 KM track will link important landmark locations of Dubai including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall, one of the most popular retail and shopping mall in the region. Dubai Trolley will add value to various tourist destinations by making the commute pleasant and convenient.

The First phase of Dubai Trolley will have one kilometer long track, with three stations in-between: The Dubai Mall, and The Address Downtown Dubai and Vida Downtown Dubai hotels. The Trolley will have a carrying capacity of 74 passengers consisting of double-decker trams with options of open-deck and air-conditioned seating. The operational speed of the trolley will be around 16 kilometers per hour and it will have a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. All terminals along Dubai Trolley’s track will be air-conditioned. Emaar plans to complete the first phase by early next year.

Dubai Trolley will be powered by Electricity and Hydrogen which indicates practically zero-emission from its operation. This is in line with the government’s effort to reduce carbon emission and promote environmentally friendly solutions for commuters.

The new commuting service will add to the customer experience of travelers by offering more choice, in addition to being another tourist attraction. This initiative will encourage smart urban mobility in the region which is also environmentally friendly.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties said that the trolley tram systems are currently being used in several US and European cities. He also expressed optimism about the success of Dubai Trolley in terms of facilitating residents and attracting tourists. He said that Emaar Properties aims to bring world class facilitates to Dubai that are sustainable and compatible with the vision of the UAE.
