Customers with Nol cards issued in August 2009 need to get new cards.

Customer using Nol cards have been informed about the short time left for its expiry date. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the Nol card holders should get their new cards made without delay.

The Nol card is valid for a period of five years, after which it has to be replaced. The first Nol cards were issued on August 1st, 2009, and hence the expiry date is approaching which will be August 1st 2014.

“We would wish to remind the public to pay attention to the expiry dates of various types of gold, silver and blue NOL cards regularly used in daily travels aboard public transit means, and obtain newly valid cards instead,” said Khalid Al Awadhi, Director of Automated Fare Collection at the RTA’s Corporate Technical Support Services Sector.

Khalid elaborated about the Nol cards, that expiry date was not highlighted on the card and it is up to the card holder to find out when the card needs to be replaced. By placing the Nol card into the parking meters in Dubai, customers can find out about card status. In case the card is expiring within one month, card holders will be notified.

The Nol card holders with expired cards will not be able to top up their cards after the expiry date, but will be able to utilize the remaining balance in the card till it passes the minimum limit.

“We would also like to alert public transport riders that the minimum balance to be maintained is Dh5.8 for gold, silver and blue Nol cards, Dh2.9 for personalised blue Nol cards for students and seniors, and Dh11.6 for expiring gold Nol cards.” he added.

It is to be noted that the amount saved up on the expired Nol card, can be transferred to the new Nol card. All card holders need to do is, go to the ticketing office at the metro or bus station and submit a form with the plea to transfer the amount in the existing Nol card. The amount is transferred to the new Nol card within the time span of two working days.

An estimate of up to 46000 Nol card holders will need to update their cards by August. The number has been calculated with reference to the Nol cards which were purchased in August 2009. As a customer service step, authorities have been vigilant in updating Nol card holders in advance so there is no inconvenience caused for them.
